Key Areas and Objectives

The Centre of Excellence for Transformation Research is based at the Chair of Economics, Macroeconomics and Economic Policy at the University of Mannheim and is funded by the Hans Böckler Foundation as part of the ‘Current Issues in Transformation’ cluster of excellence.

The centre’s research focuses on energy and industrial policy. It examines which measures are necessary to ensure that the restructuring of the economy and society is socially just, environmentally sustainable and economically competitive. This concerns, on the one hand, the issue of public investment, and on the other, necessary industrial policy interventions for the restructuring and transformation of the economy.

The aim of the centre of excellence is to provide a robust scientific foundation for fact-based and forward-looking economic policy. The research findings are intended to support decision-makers in politics, business and society in shaping the socio-ecological transformation in a democratic, efficient and equitable manner.
